Free walking tours

This may sound boring, but these tours are free and help you stroll through the hidden gems of the city and popular spots. So, you save money and gain knowledge at the same time! So, why not ?

Eat where the locals eat

One of the best pieces of traveling advice is to eat where the locals eat! Not only does it often lead to the most authentic and delicious meals, but it also offers a chance to immerse yourself in the local culture and traditions. So, skip the tourist traps and follow the locals to their favorite eateries, street food stalls, or markets – you'll discover the true essence of a place through its culinary delights.

Book with a credit card where possible

Always make an effort to resolve any issues and seek a refund directly from the supplier initially. However, don't forget about Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, which could provide coverage if the supplier breaches their contract with you. Instances of breach include non-provision of goods or services, faulty goods, or misleading information about the product or service you purchased. In such cases, you might be eligible to claim a refund from your credit card provider, offering protection if, for instance, your travel operator, hotel, or airline goes out of business after you've paid for your holiday.

Hostels over Hotels

Hostels are generally much cheaper than hotels, making them an excellent option for budget travellers.

Hostels foster a communal atmosphere, providing opportunities to meet and connect with fellow travelers from around the world. This can lead to new friendships, shared experiences, and the chance to exchange travel tips and recommendations.

Many hostels offer different types of accommodations, such as dormitory-style rooms or private rooms, providing flexibility in choosing the type of room that best suits your needs and preferences.

When you go out, take only what you need

Limit the amount of cash and bank cards you carry with you when you go out, so if something does happen, you can easily recover. Never take more than one credit card or ATM card with you. My rule for cash is to limit.

Carry a small combination lock with you when you travel. They come in handy, especially when you stay in dorms. Most hostels use lockers, so budget travellers need to provide their own travel lock to keep stuff secured.

Learn basic phrases in the native language of your destination

The locals will appreciate it and it will make your interactions easier. You don’t need to master the language but learning a few things like “Hello,” “Goodbye,” “Thank you!”, “Where’s the bathroom?” will go a long way to endearing yourself with the locals. They’ll like that you tried.

Don’t believe the cheap flight myths

Don’t drive yourself too crazy trying to get the absolute cheapest fare. There are a lot of myths online about how to find cheap flights, but there is no magic bullet or one secret ninja trick. It’s not cheaper to book on a particular day of the week, or if you search in an incognito window.

Vlogs and social media

Watching YouTube vlogs is a low key hidden treasure in finding out more about your chosen destination.  They give you a front-row seat to a authentic, unfiltered travel story. Aswell as providing invaluable tips, budget hacks, and insider secrets that only experienced travellers may know.

TikTok, and Instagram enable you to learn from others' experiences gives you the confidence to tackle new challenges and embrace the unfamiliar with open arms.
