"Fitness and exercise has played a pivotal part in my life since my early childhood." - Nadun Para ( PT / BRISTOL UNIVERSITY Bsc BIOMED GRAD )

Partaking in various sports teams, whether it be representing my school or district, allowed me to practice and improve essential attributes such as how to work effectively in a team and resilience. This directed me to engaging in the conditioning aspect of fitness, in which I instantly fell in love with.

As we grow older, different sources of stresses can affect us and through my experiences, I understood that the gym and exercise was my form of ‘escapism’. In particular, during my A-Level and university period, I leaned on exercise heavily to support me through this challenging time. The rush of endorphins that I get from exercise is unparalleled with anything else and this really supported my mental health as it enhanced my self-confidence and motivation to strive for more.

Maintaining a healthy mental wellbeing, in my opinion, should always be a high priority. Whilst we may not be able to control every situation that arises, we can control our own actions in order to be prepared for the challenges ahead. Finding a source that uplifts you and allows you to love yourself more is essential to this and I found that in the gym.

The gym plays a crucial role in the lives of students, offering more than just physical benefits. Regular exercise not only improves physical fitness but also boosts mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. Particularly in the university setting, where loneliness and academic pressure can be prevalent, the gym provides a welcoming space for students to relieve stress, socialize, and prioritize their overall well-being.
